

The Mapna Group’s Fifth Conference on ICT was held on December 24, 2015 by Mapna Management Consulting Company at the Water and Energy Company’s conference hall. The conference was attended by the Group’s CEO and about 400 senior executives, consultants and ICT specialists from the various subsidiaries of the Group.
In his speech, the Group’s CEO emphasized the strategic role of “technology” in the development of global economy, the necessity of paying more attention to ICT as a basic infrastructure in the Mapna Group’s current business dynamics, and the localization and expansion of ERP systems as a new sphere of business in the Mapna Group.
After welcoming the participants, Mirhadi, the CEO of the Mapna Group’s Management Consulting Company, began explaining the objectives and the performance of Mapna Management Consulting Company and its projects as well as the position of the shared service center (SSC) in the organization. He described the Mapna Group’s entrance into an ICT-based business as not a means but a strategic necessity.
In the first keynote speech of the conference “ICT-based Economic Opportunities in the Power Industry,” Dr. Morteza Barari, Deputy Director of Legal Affairs of Iran’s Ministry of ICT, Government and Parliament, stated that the share of IT in the global market was more than 3,500 billion euros in 2015. He added, “According to estimates of the world’s leading institutions, this figure will reach 5 billion euros in 2020”. According to Dr. Barari, Iran can expect a one percent share of the global IT market considering its population. This one-percent share amounts to 35 billion Euros (about 140,000 billion Tomans). He concluded that the current situation in Iran uses only one fourth of this potential.
In the first keynote speech of the conference “Business Strategies Recently Used by ICT Companies in the Field of Technology,” Dr. Farhad Fooroughi, Iran’s Information Security Consultant and a Researcher at British Universities, stated that the volume of information produced from 2013 onward equals the volume of information produced from the emergence of IT till 2012. He averred, “Studies show that by 2020, about 50 trillion gigabytes of data will be generated. So large companies should consider different areas of their business, see if they are prepared in this respect, and identify and build the tools and rules needed for developing a new business.
“Mapna’s Strategies for Entering ICT-based Business” was the title of a report presented by Mr. Tajoddini. He described the formation of telecom operators, wholesale distribution, project contracting and collaboration with large holdings as some initial proposals for Mapna in the field of ICT.
Six papers were presented orally, including Amini (Parto), Cheraghi (Meco), Sajedi (Tuga), Khanjarian (Mapna), Golmirzaee (Rafsys) and Razi (O&M). The rest of the papers were presented to the audience in the form of posters. The presenters were appreciated and awarded certificates at the end of the conference.
